“Carnet de Conservation” (Conservation Diary) is a travel diary by veterinarian, travel addict and illustrator Emmanuelle Chave. The book that offers insight into the daily life of wildlife research in Namibia. We follow Rubén into the desert to study and capture cheetahs with the Cheetah Research Project, a project of the Leibniz Institute for Zoo and Wildlife Research. At the crossroads of scientific research, conservation, and travel, this book is a tribute to the people who dedicate their lives to wildlife research. An adventure in watercolor paintings to describe the daily life in the field, the passion of wildlife and the desert beauty.
Emmanuelle is a veterinarian who is very fond of traveling and wildlife. “I have always wanted to combine science, creativity, and education”, she says. After two years in Laos as an elephant veterinarian, earning a Masters of Science in the USA (on elephants too), and many encounters with incredibly passionate people, she was inspired to tell and illustrate the story of those who dedicate their lives to conservation.
The book (21 x 29.7 cm, 64 pages) was self-published through crowdfunding (Ulule) and printed in France. It is available for sale at carnetdeconservation.jimdofree.com/english/book/.
At the Wildlife Resarch And Conservation Conference 2019 in Berlin, a pivotal scientific meeting organized by the Leibniz.IZW, Emmanuelle presented her travel diary with a poster.
